The Jolly Postman
One of my favorite books when I was little was The Jolly Postman by Janet and Allan Ahlberg. I think it is a really fun book for children to read because it rhymes and it incorporates a lot of the well known characters from children's tales. It's cool because we get to see the characters interacting with each other outside of the known stories. For example, Goldilocks writes a letter to the three bears and even invites baby bear to her party. Also, Jack sends the giant a postcard from a magic carpet tour. One of my favorite letters in the story is to Mr. Wolf. It says he is being sued by The Three Little Pigs Ltd. for damages and that he needs to stop harassing Red Riding Hood and her grandmother or they will call in the Official Woodcutter to take care of it. At the end all of the characters are at Goldilocks's party and it shows her getting a birthday card in the mail with some money in it from Mrs. Bunting and baby. This book still makes me smile today and I think children would really enjoy reading it.
