Ella/Ariel

After discussing Ella Enchanted, I realized that the message the author was trying to get across was very similar to a version of The Little Mermaid that I read when I was younger. Unfortunately I don't remember who the author of the version I read is but I do remember that the story had a lot to do with the idea of giving ones' self up for love. In the version, I don't remember what her name was in this particular one, but the Ariel character sacrifices a lot so that her prince will be happy. Like Ella, she doesn't do what will satisfy her, but rather she makes a huge sacrifice in order to satisfy the man she loves. In this case it ended up costing her her life. The end was bittersweet, although she was dead and couldn't be with him, she was able to come back in the form of sea foam so that she could at least see him. I thought it was an interesting way to end the story, quite different from the popular Disney version.

Only 1 entry; exceeds 100 words, content is excellent. Hans Christian Andersen wrote the Little Mermaid, and yes, it is very different from the happily ever after Disney film! See Vista for grade.
